Walk and Write with the Kentucky Poet Laureate
From the time of the ancient philosophers, we’ve known that walking in nature fosters creativity and imaginative thinking. Kentucky Poet Laureate Kathleen Driskell has written and published many poems and essays that first began percolating on her regular walks in the Parklands. Join her to walk Black Willow Trail, stopping briefly along the way to take photographs or make notes describing whatever strikes your fancy. When we complete our leisurely hike, we’ll return to the Gheens Center to discuss what makes a good poem or short essay and begin to write using what we’ve discovered on our walk.
Kathleen Driskell is an award-winning teacher, poet, and essayist who has published many books of poems and was recently appointed Kentucky Poet Laureate by Governor Andy Beshear. She is professor of creative writing and Chair of the Naslund-Mann Graduate School of Writing at Spalding University. Learn more about Kathleen and her work at kathleendriskell.com
